External render takes a beating from Leicestershire weather that internal plaster never sees, so it needs a different approach. We work with traditional sand-and-cement render and K-Rend’s through-coloured silicone finish, depending on the property and what the client wants to maintain long-term.
Sand-and-cement is the cheaper option and works well on older brick where a painted finish is expected. K-Rend costs more upfront but the colour’s mixed through the material rather than painted on top, so it doesn’t need repainting every five to seven years the way a painted render does.
Most jobs are extensions, porch fronts, or a full house re-render where the existing coat has cracked and let damp in behind it. We always check what’s causing any existing render failure before quoting, since rendering over a damp problem just delays it by a couple of years.
A typical single-storey extension render takes two to three days including scratch coat and finish. Full house renders run from £45 per square metre and we’ll give you an exact figure once we’ve measured the elevations.
