Most skimming jobs start with walls or ceilings that are cracked, blown, or just tired from years of paint. We apply a thin, fresh coat of finishing plaster over the existing surface, correcting dips and hairline cracks as we go rather than papering over them.
A standard bedroom or living room takes a day to skim and two to three days to dry properly before painting, depending on the weather and how well the room’s ventilated. Ceilings usually take a little longer than walls because gravity works against you, so we schedule a full day per ceiling rather than rushing two rooms in one visit.
We use British Gypsum Multi-Finish on most jobs, which most decorators are familiar with and takes emulsion well once fully cured. If a ceiling’s been artexed before, we’ll tell you upfront whether it needs overboarding rather than a straight skim, since skimming over textured artex rarely gives a good result.
Prices start from £280 for an average-sized room and rise with room size and how much repair work the walls need before we start.
