Not every job needs a full re-skim. A lot of what we do is smaller repair work: a crack that’s opened up above a door frame, a patch of plaster blown by a leak that’s since been fixed, a hole left after an electrician’s been in the wall. We match the existing texture and thickness so the repair doesn’t stand out once painted.
Cracks are the most common call-out. Hairline cracks are usually cosmetic, caused by the house settling or plasterboard joints moving slightly, and we can fill and skim these in an afternoon. Wider cracks or ones that keep reopening after filling often point to something structural or a movement joint that needs addressing first, and we’ll say so rather than just skimming over it again.
Damp patches need the cause dealt with before we touch the plaster, whether that’s a roof leak, a failed damp-proof course, or condensation from poor ventilation. Skimming over an active damp problem means the repair fails again within months.
Most patch repairs run from £150, with a firm price given once we’ve seen the extent of the damage.
